Project details

Factoreal is an omnichannel marketing automation platform: marketing teams without developers design journeys visually, automate the steps between them across email, web and social, and see how people move through each one. We designed and built its core modules and led their development: the drag-and-drop journey builder, the event pipeline under it and the analytics on top. Satisfi Labs, a conversational AI company, acquired Factoreal in June 2024.

Campaign automation without a marketing engineer

Small and medium-sized businesses run the same multi-channel campaigns as larger companies, usually without anyone whose job is to configure the tools. Automation software often assumes that person exists: journeys built in forms and rules, results in a separate analytics product. Factoreal puts building and measuring in one visual tool a marketer can run alone.

Building a journey

Journeys are assembled by drag and drop. Each one starts from an event trigger, such as a signup, a link click, an email action or a social interaction, and continues through conditional branches and scheduled steps, so a contact who clicks gets a different follow-up from one who doesn't. Prebuilt templates give teams a working starting point instead of a blank canvas.

Seeing what happened

The dashboard tracks the audience as a whole (total contacts, contacts added, unsubscribes and inactive contacts) alongside anonymous website visitors, so a team can see how much of its traffic has not yet become a contact. A website conversion funnel follows people from anonymous visit to signup, and heatmaps show where they engage.

Built for event volume

Every trigger is an event, and a busy campaign produces a great many of them. The platform runs on a horizontally scalable event pipeline with batching and retry semantics, so a burst of activity is absorbed rather than dropped and every journey keeps moving. Apache NiFi was part of the data pipeline.

Factoreal's event pipeline handled more than 10,000 events per second, with batching and retry semantics that keep journeys running through bursts of activity.

Key features

  • Drag-and-drop journey builder
  • Event triggers — signups, link clicks, email actions and social interactions
  • Conditional branches and scheduled steps
  • Email, web and social channels in one journey
  • Prebuilt journey templates
  • Audience dashboard — contacts added, unsubscribes, inactive contacts and anonymous visitors
  • Website conversion funnel and heatmaps
  • An event pipeline handling more than 10,000 events per second

Design

The dashboard opens on two headline cards, total contacts and total anonymous visitors, each with its 30-day breakdown, and the website conversion funnel beneath them. The navigation follows the order of the work: Dashboard, Journey, Audience, Campaign, Content and Library. The screens here show the product under its working name at the time, CampFact.

Where Factoreal went

Factoreal's platform today also reaches people by SMS, WhatsApp, push notifications and chatbots, connects to tools such as Shopify, Ticketmaster and SeatGeek, and serves sports and entertainment brands among its customers. In June 2024 it was acquired by Satisfi Labs, which is folding Factoreal's outbound, omnichannel automation into its conversational platform.
